Settling in at the Cotswolds

Our flights went really well I thought but plane rides aren’t nearly as exciting as they sound! Our flight landed in London about 6:45 England time. We found all of our luggage without any trouble, they were already sitting out in a big group when we went to get it. After loading it onto three big carts, we found our taxi driver, who brought us to our apartment/RESORT! But, along the way he somehow got lost, so we drove around the country side in pitch black. Here and there we got glimpses of some of the homes and they were just beautiful! Not fancy or expensive, they just looked well, English I guess. They were made of some kind of cement, and looked like Pride and Prejudice! There were little farms and different little sheds here and there that looked like they were 100s of years old!

The place we are staying at is right on a lake and is very contemporary. It was designed by New York designer so it’s not exactly an English cottage. This morning I had a serious case of jet lag and woke up at 1:30 and am now wide awake at 9. We spent our first day unpacking and just settling in. I have my own room and a bathroom just across the hall. Inside my room, I have a door that is glass leading right outside.
The view is just some other homes but out the back doors, there is a deck that is over the lake. While Joe and Coryell went out to the grocery store, we just hung out and played some soccer on the PS 2. (Or as the English call it, football). About five swans swam up and were right by our porch! (It has a glass “fence” so we weren’t in contact with them). They were fun to look at and were very pretty. We fed them some crust of a little meat pie that was in the kitchen and the kids loved it! You could tell that they had been fed before by the way they just swam right up.

It was nice to have a day to just settle down, but I’m excited to explore! There are many trails surrounding our apartment so tomorrow we are planning to go for a walk and maybe drive into the nearest town. Well I should probably try to go to bed now so I will start adjusting. Good Night!
